Startech Environmental and UXB International Team for the Global Destruction Of Munitions
28.09.1999, 10:46
WILTON, Conn. (PROTEXT) - Startech Environmental Corp. (OTC
Bulletin Board: STHK), a fully reporting company, today announced
the signing of a Strategic Alliance Agreement with UXB
International, Inc., a private company, located in Ashburn,
Virginia.
UXB is one of the largest internationally recognized explosive
ordnance disposal companies in the world. Unexploded Ordnance and
Explosive Ordnance refers to munitions and weapons such as
landmines, rockets, bomblets, mortars, propellants and Chemical
Warfare Materiel found on military bases, firing and bombing
ranges, and former war zones scattered throughout the world.
Joseph S. Klimek, Startech Sr. V.P. and Chief Operating
Officer, said, "The UXB Startech Alliance is a unique and
formidable team selling our combined equipment and services to
industrial and governmental markets throughout the world. We
compliment each other perfectly; they will provide the expertise
and the people; we will provide the Plasma Waste Converters (PWC)
to safely destroy the munitions on-site. The team is already
working on two prospective ordnance contracts off-shore."
Long after the guns fall silent, people, especially children,
continue to be maimed and killed and communities remain
displaced. Landmines and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) present a
serious problem of global proportions. Recent estimates indicate
that nearly 70 million landmines contaminate lands in more than
60 countries. Vast tracts of land are unsafe for living and
remain unavailable for productive use. Some progress has been
made through the efforts of many national, international and non-
governmental agencies that have worked with private and public
organizations to eliminate the threat posed by these "Hidden
Killers."
UXB provides the people, licenses and total services to
eliminate the hazards associated with the identification,
recovery, transportation, storage, and disposal of Chemical
Warfare Materiel, toxic industrial chemicals, and other extremely
dangerous wastes. The Company has a proven track record
performing successful recovery and remediation services on a
variety of Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS), on active and
about-to-be-closed Department of Defense installations, and other
government and private properties that still contain munitions
and other hazardous materials. Many military installations
designated for Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), and lands
controlled by federal agencies other than the Department of
Defense contain large areas contaminated by dangerous unexploded
and explosive munitions.
Large water areas and vast tracts of land threatened by old
munitions all over the world have to be completely cleaned-up
before they can be returned for safe use by the community. Some
of the munitions date back to the beginning of the Century.
Richmond H. Dugger, III, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive
Officer of UXB said, "The PWC, when properly applied, represents
the total solution for a multitude of challenges in the life
cycle of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), from the point of discovery
and identification, forward. The PWC system, to be supplied and
operated in this Alliance, is completely safe, environmentally
friendly, cost effective, and fully compliant with all existing
and proposed laws within the regulatory framework."
Dr. Dugger also said, "Now we have exactly the right equipment
at exactly the right time. UXB views this Strategic Alliance as a
cornerstone in a revolutionary leap in advanced applied
technology to the Unexploded Ordnance Industry."
Startech is an environmental equipment company producing its
Plasma Waste Converter systems (PWC)(TM) to remediate and safely
process hazardous and non-hazardous wastes comprised of organic
and inorganic solids, liquids and gases in its proprietary
closed-loop recycling, non-incineration, dissociation process.
The Startech process can also safely convert many hazardous
and non-hazardous materials, previously regarded as wastes, into
useful commercial products.
